Leland NC is a town
located in Brunswick County, North Carolina in the United States. It sits close
to the Brunswick River and the city of Wilmington.
This area first
became a town when the Brunswick River and Cape Fear were developed. Homes,
churches, railway stations, supermarkets, schools and post offices soon came
about and began to thrive.
For a long time,
Leland NC was a small township with small communities in it and around
it.
Leland NC is also
known for having a great transportation system. The early roads there were well
used as were the ferries crossing the river.
Before Cape Fear
River came about, a bridge was built during 1890 which is still there until
this day.
The town of Leland
NC became official during 1989. There is a celebration every twelve months in
September which celebrates Founders Day.
There are many
things to do in this intriguing township. Some of these things may surprise
you. Let's have a look at some of these things that can be done with visiting
Leland.
The Brunswick
Riverwalk at Belville
This is a fantastic
walk for those who like walking around rivers. Catering for people from all
walks of life, from those with children in prams, to those with adults or young
people in wheelchairs, this walk is so easy to access.
As you walk around
the river, along the way you will spot a canoe/kayak launch, a fishing pier, a
playground and even suitable locations for picnics. There is also a farmers
market where you will find some delicious local produce and seafood we know you
will enjoy.
The Battleship in
North Carolina.
Now this is
something to remember for a life time.
If you have a love
of ships, then we know that you will thoroughly enjoy having a look around this
battleship. When you come here, be sure to take your time walking along the
ships decks. Picture yourself out in the South Pacific Ocean as World War Two
is going on. Take a step in the past and imagine what it would have been like
for those on this ship during that time.
Whilst you are here,
don't forget to check out the gun turrets and crew's quarters.
This Battleship can
be found along the Cape Fear River now far from the city of Wilmington. It can
be accessed from highways 421, 17, 74 and 76.
It is recommended
that you allow at at least 2-3 hours possibly more for this fantastic
activity.
Sea Turtle Camp
This outstanding
activity is one that will provide you with an amazing marine biology
experience. The Seat Turtle Camp offers adventure programs that are sure to
keep you occupied for a good couple of hours through to a whole day or even a
few weeks. It does not matter what size group you may have, this camp can cater
for all sizes and for all ages.
Those who take part
in this activity will find themselves going away with a new found love for
coastal conservation. You will see the "Sea life" much more
differently to what you did before taking part int his activity.
As you can see,
there is a wide variety of things to do in Leland NC. There are of course, many
other activities to enjoy but we hope that we have inspired you to add these to
your list of things to do.
