Things To Do In Calabash, North Carolina
Calabash is a small
coastal town with big charm for those who love the outdoors. Located on the
banks of the Calabash River in southeastern North Carolina, Calabash is home to
some of the best golf courses, charter fishing fleets, and seafood eateries
anywhere around.
This community's
claim to fame began during the WWII era when the seafood restaurant business
birthed in Calabash. Patrons loved the unique Calabash flavor of the seafood.
Soon, the town became known as "The Seafood Capital of the World."
Yet, Calabash's history goes back centuries earlier to the late 1600's when
plantation owners utilized the river as a way to ship crops. Later, in the
early 1900's, the timber industry saw Calabash as a point of origin to float
logs down the river.
Today, Calabash is a
vacationer's paradise. It has many attractions including many fishing charters.
Hurricane Fleet, Fish Screamer and Lucky Strike Charters take patrons out into
the Atlantic Ocean for fishing excursions that include catches of King
Mackerel, Bonito, Cobia, Amberjack, Dolphin, Shark, Spanish Mackerel, Black
Sea
Bass, Grey Snapper,
Grouper, Barracuda, Sailfish, Marlin and more. Most offer half day or full day
adventures with some providing for customized times. Rod, reel and bait are
provided. To contact Hurricane Fleet, call 843-249-3571. Fish Screamer
Charters can be reached by calling 843-446-1913. For Lucky Strike Charters,
call 843-249-2049. The Calabash Fishing Fleet Charter of nearby Myrtle Beach,
SC has a fresh local seafood restaurant in Calabash--Waterfront Seafood
Shack--for those who relish fish that come off the boat and onto the grill. In
actuality, though, Calabash can boast of more than two dozen highly rated fresh
seafood restaurants.
For golfers, there's
The Brunswick Plantation Resort and Golf located at 380 Brunswick Drive in
Calabash. It is open year round. It has a pro shop, a lodge, clubhouse,
restaurant / lounge, putting green and chipping green. There's also the
Carolina Shores Golf and Country Club. Located at 99 Carolina Shores Drive,
this is a public 18-hole golf course designed by architect Tom Jackson. It
opened in 1974 and caters to golfers of all abilities. Crow Creek Golf Club is
another 18 hole public golf course. It was designed by architect Rick Robbins.
It is located at 490 S. Crow Creek Drive in Calabash. It has a pro shop and
restaurant. The Farmstead Golf Links at 541 McLamb Rd. in Calabash is a golf
course also designed for players with varied skills. Close to Farmstead is its

Golf Links is near the Calabash River marshes. This course, too, is designed
for golfers of all ability levels. The course is open year round. The address

casting your line into the Atlantic Ocean, dining in unique outdoor and indoor
settings, or teeing off on a well-maintained golf course with beautiful
surroundings, Calabash is a destination town for a visit. And, who knows, you
might just want to stay for a lifetime.
